Planned maintenance
Every VR-series bed and pump needs planned maintenance once a year. Mattresses need a documented inspection at the same interval.
| Product | Interval | Time on site | Checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| VR-7, VR-7 XW | 12 months | About 55 minutes | Electrical safety test; every movement in both directions; emergency functions; side rail latches and load test; castors and brakes; scale calibration check with test weights; patient-exit alarm; battery capacity test; event log review; software version check |
| VR-5 | 12 months | About 45 minutes | As VR-7, without lateral tilt |
| VR-A4 pump | 12 months | About 20 minutes | Electrical safety test; pressure and cycle check; alarms; filter change |
| VR-H2, VR-F1 | 12 months | About 10 minutes | Cover inspection; foam and cell inspection; label check |
Booking visits
For hospitals with a service agreement we plan the year’s visits in advance and agree the dates with the medical engineering department six weeks before each visit. We try to keep each bed within the same month every year. We need access to beds that are not in use; a typical visit covers 20 to 30 beds a day with one engineer.
Electrical safety testing
Beds are tested as Class I equipment with a type B applied part: protective earth resistance, insulation resistance and earth leakage current, with results recorded against the limits in the service manual. Pumps are tested the same way.
Scale calibration check
The scale is checked with certified test weights at 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg, and at 250 kg on beds weighed for dosing where the ward asks for it. If any reading is outside ±0.5 kg, the scale is recalibrated and checked again. Since September 2026 our engineers also check the battery charge profile at this step (see FSN-UK-2026-02).
Records
Each bed gets a dated label showing when the next visit is due, and the report lists every test result. Reports are kept for twelve years and copies can be requested from the service desk at any time.
Maintenance by your own engineers
Engineers with a current Level 2 certificate can carry out planned maintenance using the checklist in the service manual and the service tool. Parts kits for planned maintenance, including filters and the battery capacity test load, can be ordered from the parts team.
